Specialized equipment for pediatric neurorehabilitation

At Children’s Health, your child has access to specialized rehab equipment to help them achieve their highest level of recovery. Our rehab equipment includes:

• ErigoPro: This tilt table supports children in upright or standing positions as robotic equipment moves their legs. The therapist can adjust the equipment to allow your child to gradually bear more weight as they progress.

• Lokomat: Children with partial or complete paralysis below the waist can practice walking with this device, which provides robotic assistance for standing up and walking.

• RT300 Functional Electrical Stimulation Bicycle: Functional electrical stimulation (FES) uses electrodes that look like stickers to deliver mild electrical pulses to muscles. This stationary bicycle incorporates FES to stimulate children’s legs to move and pedal.

• Xcite: Children use this FES system to rebuild their fine and gross motor skills for a wide range of activities. The equipment helps them with fine motor skills, such as writing, brushing teeth and holding a utensil, and gross motor skills, such as sit to stand and heel slides.

• NeuroRehab Virtual Reality: Children engage in 3D virtual reality exercises that stimulate the brain to help improve physical function.

• Andago: Full body support, gait training over the ground

• Aquatic Therapy: Provides a gravity reduced environment for patient to do therapeutic exercises (hydroworx/treadmill)

• Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) therapy: An advanced treatment for children who struggle to eat and swallow. This therapy gently stimulates the throat muscles, helping them become strong enough for children to safely eat and drink.

Ongoing support for your child after pediatric neurorehabilitation

As your child progresses through our day neurology program, we’re with you every step of the way. When it’s time for your child to return to their daily home and school activities, our care coordinator helps you plan the next steps, including:

• Follow-up care: Depending on your child’s individual needs, we will make a referral to outpatient rehab for visits typically twice a week.Your child might also need neuropsychological testing with our team six months after completing the day program.

• Return to school: Our team works with your child’s school to help your child return to the classroom with the support they need.

• Home assessments and activity plans: We can evaluate your home to decide whether your child needs any adaptive equipment. Our team works with you to create age-appropriate home activity plans to support their recovery and help them return to the activities they love
